General Requirements for Firearms Registration

I. Firearms Eligible for Registration

Ii. Registrant Eligibility

Registration eligibility is summarized below. For complete details, please refer to D.C. Official Lawmaking § vii-2502.03. To obtain a registration certificate, an applicant or registrant must:

  1. Be 21 years of age or older. III. Duties and Responsibilities of the Registrant

  1. Registered Firearms and Registration Certificate :
    • Registrants must file a constabulary report at a police district station or at FRB immediately upon discovery of loss, theft, or destruction of a registration document or registered firearm.
    • Registrants must notify FRB of:
      1. Any modify of name or address that differs from the 1 recorded on the original document.

  1. If an application for registration is denied or a registration document is revoked, the applicant or registrant will be notified by post.   2.   1. In general, a person shall non possess armament within the District unless:

    • He is a holder of a valid registration certificate for a firearm.
    • He holds an ammunition collector's certificate constructive prior to September 25, 1976.
    • He temporarily possesses armament while participating in a firearms training and safe class conducted by a firearms instructor.
    • He is an officer, agent, or employee of the District of Columbia or the United States on duty and acting within the scope of his duties when possessing such ammunition.
  2. No person shall possess restricted armament, divers as any projectile cadre which may be used in a handgun and which is synthetic entirely (excluding traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, atomic number 26, contumely, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than than 25 percentage of the full weight of the projectile, or .50 caliber BMG ammunition.(D.C.   3. No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any big capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is fastened to a firearm. A "large chapters ammunition feeding device" means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or like device that has a chapters of, or that can be readily restored or converted to have, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. No amount of coin shall exist paid for any firearm, destructive device, or ammunition delivered and abandoned nether this department. (D.C. Official Code § 7-2507.05 (a)).

XI. Full general Penalties

Pursuant to D.C. Official Code § vii-2507.06, any person who violates certain provisions of Firearms Control Regulations Act, equally amended, shall, upon conviction, be fined not more than $1,000 or be imprisoned for not more than one twelvemonth, or both, except that:

(i) A person who knowingly or intentionally sells, transfers, or distributes a firearm, destructive device, or armament to a person under 18 years of historic period shall be fined not more than $ 25,000 or imprisoned for non more ten years, or both.

(2) (A) Except equally provided in subparagraph (B) of this paragraph, whatever person who is convicted a 2d time for possessing an unregistered firearm shall exist fined not more than $ 12,500 or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.
